American ASA National Championship 2020 Cancelled

Letter fom ASA Board of Directors

Dated:  MARCH 20, 2020,

Due to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the American Subbuteo Association Board of Directors regrets to announce the cancellation of the ASA National tournament weekend on June 20-21, 2020, in Alexandria, Virginia.

The ASA Board believes that we need to follow effective healthcare practices and do our part to limit the spread of the illness through social distancing. As medical experts and government authorities tell us, these measures are crucial to coping with the devastating effects of coronavirus and overall efforts to return to a state of normalcy in the reasonably near future.

The ASA Board did not take this momentous decision lightly. The annual ASA National tournament is a highlight of U.S. subbuteo table soccer. It was first played in 1982 and has been held every year since 1992. We know that ASA members greatly value and support the tournament’s high level of competition as well as the community-mindedness it creates among participants and organizers.

But in light of the serious nature of the emergency and also noting that FISTF tournaments have been cancelled and the 2020 World Cup postponed, the ASA Board unanimously decided to cancel our most prestigious event.  While the 28-year streak will be broken, the ASA Nationals will be back (hopefully in 2021) and we remain committed to maintaining a robust, cohesive table soccer community in North America.

Stay safe!    Sincerely,

The ASA Board
