It will not come as a surprise to anyone that the FISTF Board has, in conjunction with the Board of Federazione Italiana Sportiva Calcio Tavolo (FISCT), decided to cancel the 2020 (2021) World Cup, and has decided that the next edition will be staged in Rome in 2022.
Neither FISCT or FISTF believe the Rome Organizing Committee can organize the World Cup in 2021, due to ongoing restrictions on gatherings and meetings. Compounded with the uncertainty in Italy is the belief that many nations may not be able to organize teams to travel to participate. Further details on the specifics of the 2022 World Cup will be communicated in due course.
We can understand everyone’s disappointment at this news, but hope that people can appreciate the issues surrounding organizing such a prominent event in these trying times.
We are not alone in the world of table sports having events cancelled or postponed. Our friends at the World Table Hockey Association (WTHA) cancelled their world championship in 2020 and have rescheduled to 2022. Similarly the International Table Soccer Federation (ITSF) has postponed its world cup from June 2021 to 2022. And the International Table Hockey Federation (ITHF) is currently debating whether to postpone their event scheduled for later this year in Tallinn, Estonia.
