Once again, Major of Frameries has gathered an amazing number of players, with 220 travelling from 17 countries, including from across the Atlantic.
On Saturday, the individual event had only just begun when there was a huge surprise as Marco Di Vito beat Carlos Flores, winner of the last 7 editions,
The message was clear for the famous Spanish player: his opponents were going to fight him hard.
But Carlos reached the final despite of very difficult games like against his team mate Luca Zambello in 1/4 final (7-6 in SD) or against World number 2 Christophe Dheur in 1/2 final who had many possibilities to get a draw.
In final, Malta’s Samuel Bartolo was waiting for him.
To arrive there, Samuel had also to win some amazing thrillers like against Georgios Genitsaropoulos in last 32 (shoot out) or against David Gonzalez in 1/2 final (sudden death).
In the final, Bartolo put on a perfect game and won 3-1, ending Carlos’ incredible winning streak.
In veterans, John Field, from Gibraltar won his second Major (after Milano 2023) breaking in the final Gianfranco Calonico’s dream to win his only great missing trophy.
In 1/2 finals, they had won respectively against Darren Clark and Carlo Alessi.
In the Women’s category, after eliminating Despretz sisters Léa and Emilie in the 1/2 finals, the two seeded players Audrey Herbaut and Carolina Villarigues met in final.
A shoot out was necessary to decide between them and the French Audrey won her 5th Major of Frameries.
In U20, the local player, Lucas Père won against French player Quentin Ausset in shoot out. The semi finalists were Noah Denne and Noah Janssens.
In U16, after having lost the final last 2 years, Malta’s Robert Farrugia Randon won the event against local player Louis Soret. Both 1/2 finalists were also AS Hennuyer’s players: Ruby Matthews and Jérôme Cyganek.
In U12, the English boy Max Pereira didn’t let any chance to his opponents during all the day.
In final, he won against Italian Davide Balito. 1/2 finalists were also Italians Alessandro Gandin and Alberto Barattucci.
On Sunday in the team event (with 42 teams) also brought very tough games.
In the semi finals, there were 2 games between Italian and Maltese teams. Both games were won by Italian teams by the same score 2-1: Reggio Emilia against Bormla and Eagles Napoli against Valletta SC (winner of last 2 editions).
In the final Reggio Emilia claimed it’s 10th trophy in Frameries.
