2017-12#02 – Voting for President

Stephen Dettre

It is my belief that the Board runs FISTF.
The President, nor any Board member, must not be a unilateral decision maker. The Board makes the decisions for FISTF. The President acts as a spokesman for the Board, and acts to keep the various parts of the Board working in unison.
We need to accept that there are four levels of player playing Sports Table Football, and that FISTF has a responsibility to them all.

  • Elite, who play at World Cup, Grand Prix etc on a regular basis
  • National level players who occasionally may play in Grand Prix, International Open and domestic tournaments
  • Club players, who are just comfortable playing with friends in club competitions, and who may occasionally take part in national events
  • Casual players, who play in family or neighbourhood competitions and who are unlikely to take part in higher level events.

Our responsibility is to:

  • Ensure there are logical and clear Laws of the Game.
  • Maintaining standardisation of all playing equipment.
  • Encouraging manufacturers to produce equipment to suit all four levels of player.
  • Assisting national associations in providing resources to spread the game.

The FISTF Board members have responsibilities for various areas. The responsibility of the President is to ensure the various departments focus on their areas, work together where needed, and provide monthly reports to the Board and to the Member Associations.

The Board will create policies as necessary on various topics. The Board will debate issues, and once a vote is made, the principle of Board Solidarity will be held: that all board members will be held to the decision.

My key focus over the next two years is to get our house in order.

  • I want to only stand for 2 years, and want to propose a change to the statutes to reflect that for all positions.
  • We need to completely examine what FISTF is all about: why do we exist, and what should we do.
  • Board expenses will be completely overhauled. All expenses will need to be approved by the Board before payment.
  • The fundamentals of competitions will be examined.
  • Our rules and regulations will be reviewed.
  • A number of special working groups will be established, with various individuals encouraged to participate.
  • Operational templates for all major competitions will be established for the benefit of Tournament Organisers.
  • We must win back the trust of member associations and players.
