Spain has been selected to host the 2028 FISTF World Cup after a vote of the FISTF member nations. Spain received 11 votes to Belgium’s eight, with one abstention, securing the right to stage the sport’s premier international event.
The successful bid has been warmly welcomed by the Spanish table football community, with the Asociación Española de Fútbol de Mesa (AEFM) expressing delight at the opportunity to organise the World Cup once again 13 years after it last hosted the event. Describing the tournament as “the most beautiful and important competition on the FISTF Calendart”, organisers said they were both excited and honoured by the confidence placed in them by FISTF and its members.
AEFM said the 2028 World Cup offers a major opportunity to give sports table football greater visibility, with plans to innovate in event presentation, media coverage and the use of new digital broadcasting platforms. “The aim is not only to deliver a world-class competition, but also to use the event to strengthen the sport’s reach and profile internationally.”
Organisers acknowledged that the work begins immediately, with two and a half years of preparation now ahead. That effort will focus on building institutional partnerships, securing sponsorships and bringing new partners into the project as Spain begins its road to 2028.
AEFM also thanked the member countries and FISTF for the trust shown in the bid, saying it hoped to live up to the opportunity it has been given and deliver a World Cup worthy of the occasion.
