Daniel Cranston claims American Subbuteo Association title

Daniel Cranston won the ASA Open title in a thrilling 4-1 victory over Zach Walker, in the titles staged in Golden, Colorado.
A member of the USA World Cup team, Cranston dominated the match.
Congratulations to all ASA officials on staging the event and the players who attended.

Valverde and Montaño take titles in Grand Prix Internacional de Mallorca

Angel Valverde (ESP/CAP Ciudad de Murcia FM) beat David González (ESP/Lincoln Red Imps Gibraltar TSC) on shots in their final in the Open category at the Grand Prix Internacional de Mallorca on Saturday.

Angel won 3-2 on shots after the scores were locked 1-1 after extra time.

In the Veterans’ category, Antonio Montaño (ESP/Tiburones FM) beat his teammate, Vicenç Prats (ESP).

Table football introduced in schools in Malta

The Malta Table Football Sports Association staged its first session with local P.E. teachers to introduce our sport.
Special thanks to the teachers for their time, Marvin Spiteri, Kevin Azzopardi, from the Institute of Physical Education and Sport.

Alegi wins Flicko de Mayo – FISTF Satellite event

Peter Alegi of the Grand Rapids Table Soccer Club won the 2018 Flicko de Mayo (a FISTF Satellite event) on the weekend, beating Erik Haefke (Chicago TSC) 5-1 in the final.

Chicago won the Great Lakes Team challenge, beating Grand Rapids 2-1.

Congrats Chicago on the team victory and thanks to all participants for a great day of competition and camaraderie.

Winners across the globe

Samuel Bartolo and Mario Camilleri (both Valletta Subbuteo Club) claimed a prestigious double at the FISTF International Open & Grand Prix of Malta – Valletta 2018, winning both the IO and the GP over the weekend.
Armando Giuffrè (Messina Subbuteo Sports Club) won the U19 in the IO, then Dimitrios Dimopoulos (Piraeus Lions TSC) won the U19 Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the globe, Eliot Kennedy (Northern Falcons TFC) claimed his first FISTF event, winning the Sydney Satellite 3-1 against Benji Batten (Melbourne TFC).
Gabriel Lombardi (Sydney TFC) won the U15 event, beating Jonas Hahn (Northern Falcons TFC).

Action this weekend

Almost 100 players from three continents will contest a Grand Prix, International Open and Satellite across two continents this coming weekend.

The main action will be in Malta where the Grand Prix and International Open will be contested, while in Australia, the Sydney Satellite will take place on Sunday.

Harrow Satellite – London, England – Saturday 17th February — report by Victor Jones…. better late than never!!

Paolo Barone took advantage of a visit to London, to win his first ever FISTF Satellite event.

At the home of his current team, Harrow Hawks, the Italian beat Panos Stemitsiotis 1-0 in the final to seal the honours, before his return to his current residence in Rome.

Barone scored the vital goal in the first half of an evenly matched conclusion. In an attack down the left-hand side, a block flick fell short, and Barone gave his opponent no chance with a chip shot which went in off the underside of the crossbar.

And though Stemitsiotis created several chances to equalise, Barone held on for his maiden FISTF success.

In an event dominated by the host club, all four semi-finalists were Harrow players, and that excluded the two Hawks who were finalists at the club’s last Satellite tournament.

Stemitsiotis – a late entry to the competition – had looked strong from the start, thrashing holder Rudi Peterschinigg 5-1 in the group stage, and then dispatching Victor Jones – runner-up in the last edition – 2-0 in the quarter-finals.

A dominant first half display helped him to a 3-0 lead against Paul Andreas in the semis. And whilst Andreas had the better of the second half, the Cypriot player could only manage a single consolation goal.

Barone’s path to the final was equally as tough.

Drawn in the same group as Andreas, a 1-0 defeat consigned him to second place, and a quarter-final against Martin Hodds.

Barone edged through, via a shoot-out as nervy as the 40 goalless minutes that preceded it, before another added time victory in the semis, this time thanks to an overtime goal against Marco Ghigliotti.

Peterschinigg meanwhile relinquished his title after a 2-1 sudden death defeat to Ghigliotti at the quarter-final stage.

– The plate again saw close games as Terry Arnold beat Matteo Lulli 3-2 to reach the final. In the other semi, Kye Arnold couldn’t get past veteran Dave Croucher to make it an all-Kent final with the Worthing player winning on shots after a 2-2 draw. In the end, Arnold won the final with a 1-0 victory in a tight game.

Tiburones wins Scotland GP Teams Event

Snow was falling outside but plenty of heat was being generated inside as ten teams competed in the Scottish GP Team Event.

In the end-up it was the top two seeds, Tiburones (Spain) and Royal 78 Kaisermuhlen (Austria) who met in the final.

The key results in this closely but fairly contested match were Antonio Montano’s and Daniel Scheen’s wins over Thomas Wittman and Christian Haas.

The final overall score was 2-1.

The Plate Consolation was won by Dundee United A Team.
