Big success for the tournament of the Pobladores Griegos

During the week-end of February 14 and 15, an international open tournament was played in the Acharnis Hotel, Parnitha. The tournament was organised by the Pobladores Griegos team. On saturday we had the team event. 10 teams (from 7 clubs) were present. Falcons Athens (see picture) won the final against Scarlet Battalion SC. Olympia and the home team Pobladores reached the semis.
On sunday we had three individual categories: the ladies, open and veterans. In the ladies section (5 players) Dionysia Koulosousa won the group. Eleftheria Papanikolaou was second.
In the open category (49 players), Spyros Hantzaras was the winner. Kostas Seses reached the semi. Lambros Drossopoulos and Nikos Naskos were the semi-finalists.

In the veterans (11 players) Marcos Kapsambelis (picture) won the final against Lazaros Papakonstantinou. Aggelinas brothers Chris and George reached the semis.
The consolation tournament was named as a WASPA tournament. Yannis Salamouris beat Dimitris Patrinos in the final.

Perfect week-end for Charleroi players in Issy

Issy15-U19

The Grand Prix of France took place this week-end in Issy-les-Moulineaux with a strong field of 162 players coming from 11 nations. Besides the 54 French players, there were 108 foreign players. In the Open category, the top seed was the current world champion Juan Noguera. The player from Spain was defeated in the semi-final by Belgium’s Christophe Dheur. Dheur later beat Sami Targui in the final to claim the title (1-0). Maikel de Haas from the Netherlands was the other semi-finalist.

There were many big games in the veterans section. World number 1 Gianfranco Calonico had a perfect road to the final but in the last game, Patrick de Jong from the Netherlands tied 2-2 and finally took the title on shots.

Françoise Guyot from France won the ladies category, defeating Audrey Herbaut in the final. In the other categories, the titles were awarded to Belgium’s Florian Giaux (U19 – picture), Italy’s Nicola Borgo (U12) and Belgium’s Corentin Bouchez (U12).

On sunday 30 teams attended the club tournament. SC Charleroi took the honor after beating Fiamme Azzurre in the final. The Belgians made a great tournament, managing to qualify their second squad for the semi-final as well.

United in dramatic win!

ESA’s first event of 2015, the Leicester International Open, had many players competing for silverware as London & Essex United captured the team title with a tense victory over Yorkshire Phoenix. The 11 team event had some great games and plenty of goals as the teams battled for supremacy. In the end the semi-finals saw 3 English teams in the last 4 as Kent Invicta lost to London & Essex Utd and Yorkshire Phoenix beat Scotland’s Tayside Kickers. The Final, although a low scoring affair, provided plenty of drama as London took the game 2-1 over their Northern rivals.

The Individuals provided some excellent play on the Saturday with Scotland’s Steve Bennett winning the Open 3-1 over Paulo Gouveia from Portugal. The Veterans final had the same finalists as last year with the Belgian, Daniel Scheen narrowly beating Spain’s Luis Mendez 3-2.

The youth categories were again keenly contested, providing great tournament experience for the younger players. It was an all English final for the Under 19’s as London’s Elliott Bellefontaine edged out Kent’s Christopher Bowen 2-1 on shots after a 1-1 draw. The Under 15’s saw the Belgium’s Noe Scheen in action yet again over his English rival, Kye Arnold from Kent. This was another close game finishing with Scheen winning 3-2 with a sudden death goal. The Under 12’s had an all-England and Kent final, as finally, the impressive Joseph Kinrade won his first FISTF tournament title with a 2-0 win over teammate Thomas Price.

Perfect week-end for Carlos Flores and Reggio Emilia in Rome

The FISTF Major of Rome was held for the first time this week-end. The tournament was a Grand Prix last season and was promoted as Major after the belgian club of Stembert decided not to organize a Major this season. The level was high with many excellent players travelling to the center of Italy. Carlos Flores (Spain/Reggio Emilia) proved to be in the shape of his life after beating Daniele Bertelli in the final. Massimialno Nastasi and Antonio Mettivieri reached the final 4. In the veterans, the level was very high as well but in the end it was a small surprise to see ACS Perugia’s Gerardo patruno beat Malta’s Charles Aquilina in the final. the other individual results were David Gonzalez (U19 – picture), Francesco Vezzuto (U15), the young Antonio Chieppa (U12) and Switzerland’s Trisha Baumeler in the ladies section.

The team event was also very hot with 40 teams dropped in 10 groups. After a perfect day, the guys of Reggio Emilia (Flores, Lamberti, Licheri, Capellacci and Bari) won the tournament. They beat Pisa in the final. ACS Perugia and the Napoli Fighters were the semi-finalists.

Santo Longo wins in Reggio Calabria

The Satellite of Reggio Calabria was held on January 10 and 11 with a good field of players in three categories. Santo Longo (Catania) was the best of the 23 Open players. He beat Claudio La Torre in the final. Daniele calcagno and Michele Cortese lost in the semis. Pietro Ielapi won the veterans (final against Giovanni Tonietti) while Claudio La Torre won the U15 section (final against Antonio La Torre). The team event was played as a group of six with a final victory for the team of CCT Siracusa (5 wins).Reggio

Christophe Dheur wins in Eugies

The first tournament of the year in Belgium took place in Eugies on January 10 & 11 with some competitors travelling from France, the Netherlands and England. Many top belgian players were not taking part but the current number 1 of the belgian ranking, Christophe Dheur, was there with the ambition to win. After defeating Christophe Brach, Emmanuel Gorgette and David Ruelle, Dheur (SC Charleroi) defeated France’s Rémi Soret int he final (1-0). Int he veterans, the top seed was Daniel Scheen (TFC Wiener Neustadt) but Dan lost to SC Temploux player Benoit Massart on shots in the final. Other winners in the categories were David Vantassel (AS Hennuyer) in U19, Maxime Rairoux (SC Eugies) in U15, Corentin Bouchez (SC Eugies) in U12 and Margault Delval (AS Hennuyer) in the ladies section.

In the team event, 15 teams were dropped in three groups. Rochefort TS beat Brussels Subbuteo Club in the final while SC Eugies and AS Hennuyer lost in the semis.

Mattersburg and Leitner on top in Vienna

The Grand Prix of Austria took place on January 3 & 4 and was organized by the club of TSC Royal 78 in Vienna. 11 teams competed in the team event and TFC Mattersburg won the title after a close final against TFC Wiener Neustadt (2-1). TFC Wiener Neustadt B and TSC Royal 78 Kaisermühlen lost in the semis. The Open tournament had a surprising final but Wolfgang Leitner won the event after a close game against Italy’s Marco Bernardis (2-1). Belgium’s David Ruelle and local player Murat Tunger reached the semis. In the other categories, Stefan Sandner won the veterans final against Günther Bamberzky, Lorenzo Praino defeated Lukas Eppensteiner (U19), Marios Stromer came on top of the U15 section, Tomasso Lazzari dominated the U12 group stage of six players and Conny Vulpes won the ladies section.

Peter Thomas wins the Grand Prix of Australia

The FISTF Grand Prix of Australia took place in Melbourne this week-end. For the first time players from Singapore and Hong Kong travelled to Australia for what was also called the “Asian Championship”. Serious things started in the quarter-finals when Vikas Chandaramani defeated John Ho to qualify for the semis. Hong Kong’s Antonio Carabillo also managed to get his ticket for the final 4 after defeating Steve Dettre.

In the semis, Australians seemed to be the strongest players. Robert Green beat Vikas Chandaramani (1-0) while Peter Thomas Peter Thomas defeated Antonio Carabillo (3-0).

ASIANCUP-Final

Peter Thomas beat Robert Green in the final (1-0) to become the first Asian champion.

ASIANCUP-Juniors

Benjamin Ng won the U12 event.

ASIANCUP-NorthernFalcons

On sunday, the club of Northern Falcons (Sydney) took the honors in the team event after beating Melbourne TFC 2-1 in the final. The consolation tournament was also a WASPA tournament with 12 players. Luke Radzimisnki took the honors after beating Giuseppe Tardiota (1-0) in the final. Congratulations to all the guys in Australia who made things happen.
