Malta: big wins for Samuel Bartolo and Juan Noguera

On April 25 and 26, the island of Malta was hosting two international events. On Saturday, Spain’s Juan Noguera (picture)won the International Open, defeating Mark Gauci in the final. Andrew Abela (U19), Jurgen Balzan (U15) and Thomas Ebejer (U12) won the youth sections while the veterans final was between two Maltese players with Jason Pisani defeating Charles Aquilina.

On Sunday, Samuel Bartolo beat Hansel Mallia in the final (see picture) of the individual grand prix. Andrew Abela (U19), Andrew Deguara (U15) and Thomas Ebejer (U12) won their respective categories while Massimo Cremona won the veterans section. The Reggio Emilia player beat Italy’s Lucio Cannichio in the final. Valletta Subbuteo Club took the honors by winning the team event.

News from around Europe

As every third week-end of the month, there was no important FISTF tournament this week-end. All over Europe, there were several competitions for teams and here is a very brief summary of the national competitions.

  Teamplay-Feb15-AUT-Royal78   

AUSTRIA: TSC Royal 78 (Stefan Sandner, Alexander Haas, Heinz Eder and Murat Tünger) has become Austrian Cup winner. They beat TFC Wiener Neustadt in the semi and TFC Mattersburg in the final, a big performance.

ITALY: CCT Black & Blue Pisa (article picture) won the national Cup in San Benedetto (final against Fiamme Azzurre). The team of Perugia (picture) won the U19 tournament.

MALTA: the national championship for teams took place this week-end. The winners are Valletta Subbuteo Club (picture) while the Valletta Lions are runner-ups.

SPAIN: Congratulations to the team of Tiburones (picture) for winning the national title. During the week-end, invidual titles have also been awarded to David Gonzalez (Open), Ferran Coll (Veterans), Antonio J. Casín (U19), Antonio García Fernandez (U15), Kristian Sylagiev (U12).

BELGIUM: the third (of 4) day of the national league was played in Rochefort. After 12 games, SC Charleroi is still the leader of the league with 29 points while Rochefort TS have 28. Verviers-Herve (22), SC Stembert (20) and Brussels SC (20) are still competing to qualify for European cups. SC Eugies “B” is the leader of Division 2.

Perfect week-end for Carlos Flores and Reggio Emilia in Rome

The FISTF Major of Rome was held for the first time this week-end. The tournament was a Grand Prix last season and was promoted as Major after the belgian club of Stembert decided not to organize a Major this season. The level was high with many excellent players travelling to the center of Italy. Carlos Flores (Spain/Reggio Emilia) proved to be in the shape of his life after beating Daniele Bertelli in the final. Massimialno Nastasi and Antonio Mettivieri reached the final 4. In the veterans, the level was very high as well but in the end it was a small surprise to see ACS Perugia’s Gerardo patruno beat Malta’s Charles Aquilina in the final. the other individual results were David Gonzalez (U19 – picture), Francesco Vezzuto (U15), the young Antonio Chieppa (U12) and Switzerland’s Trisha Baumeler in the ladies section.

The team event was also very hot with 40 teams dropped in 10 groups. After a perfect day, the guys of Reggio Emilia (Flores, Lamberti, Licheri, Capellacci and Bari) won the tournament. They beat Pisa in the final. ACS Perugia and the Napoli Fighters were the semi-finalists.

Santo Longo wins in Reggio Calabria

The Satellite of Reggio Calabria was held on January 10 and 11 with a good field of players in three categories. Santo Longo (Catania) was the best of the 23 Open players. He beat Claudio La Torre in the final. Daniele calcagno and Michele Cortese lost in the semis. Pietro Ielapi won the veterans (final against Giovanni Tonietti) while Claudio La Torre won the U15 section (final against Antonio La Torre). The team event was played as a group of six with a final victory for the team of CCT Siracusa (5 wins).Reggio

A big Vasco Guimaraes in Milano

The FISTF Open of Milano took place on December 6-7 with a very good filed in every category and a lot of top players. The final of the Open section was a dream final between the Portuguese legend Vasco Guimaraes and the world champion Juan Noguera (see picture). Vasco won the game 2-1, adding another trophy in his huge collection. Luca Zambello and Wolfgang Haas were the semi-finalists. In the veterans the world number 1 Gianfranco Calonico beat local player Mario Corradi in the final. Matteo Ciccarelli beat brother Andrea in the U19 final and Nicola Borgo won all his games scoring many goals in the U15 section. Tommasso Lazzari came on top of a group of 7 in the U12 category and Paola Forlani created the surprise in the ladies category when beating Switzerland’s Trisha Baumeler in sudden death.

In the team events, the Austrians of TFC Wiener Neustadt beat the Valletta Lions in the final on goal-difference. Congratulations to all the winner.

The Eagles Napoli win the Champion’s League

32 clubs attended the European Cups for clubs this week-end in Frameries (Belgium). The organisation was fantastic with a superb hall and great facilities. At the end of the day, the Italian team of Eagles Napoli won the event as they beat SC Charleroi (Belgium) on the score of 2-1. Napoli was fielding a very strong team despite the absence of Massimo Bolognino, the former world champion and team captain, who is currently suspended by the Italian association. Nikos Beis, Massimiliano Nastasi, Luigi and Marco Di Vito played the final with the support of their clubmates Raffaele Di Vito and Alan Collins. Congratulations to Napoli, a club that won the European cup five years ago in Tournai, in Belgium!

Two wins for Carlos Flores in Naples

The first international Open of the season was held last week-end in Naples, one of the hot places of international subbuteo, in the South of Italy. The team event had a brilliant field of 21 entries and the level was very high. In the final, Reggio Emilia beat Perugia thanks to a positive goal difference while the game ended on 2-2. The winning team was fielding Licheri, Flores, Bari and Lamberti.

The individual tournament was also very open but despite of the presence of many top Italian players, the final was a Spajnish story and Carlos Flores finally defeated the new world champion Juan Noguera by an amazing score of 8-3.

The other winners were Marco Lamberti (veterans), Sara Guercia (ladies), Riccio (U12), Vezzuto (U15) and Ciccarelli (U19).
