Colangelo and Fiamme Azzurre on top in Catania

On July 4 and 5, 8 teams and 51 players from 4 nations attended the International Open of Catania. The event had some good players taking part but there were surprises. In the Open semi-final, world champion Juan Noguera (Spain) was defeated by clubmate Hansel Mallia (Malta). Mallia later lost the final to Italy’s Luca Colangelo (1-2). Other individual winners were Armando Giuffrè (U19), Claudio La Torre (U15), Bruno Bagnao (Vetetrans), Riccardo natoli (U12) and Eleonora Buttitta (Ladies). The team event saw no surprise as top favorite iamme Azzurre defeated Subbuteo Club Catania in the final (3-1).

Prats and Montaño win in Barcelona

The International Open of Barcelona took place last week-end with a good field of spanish players and two guests from Italy. Only two categories were in the individual program. Vicenç Prats won the Open category, defeating Ferran Coll in the final (2-1) while Miguel Angel Lopez and Luis Lopez reached the final 4.

Antonio Montaño (see picture above) won the veterans section, defeating Vicenç Prats in the final. Ferran Coll and Alvaro Martinez were the losing semi-finalists.

Major of Athens: the Falcons and Hantzaras on top

The 4th Major of the season took place in the last week-end of June in Athens (Greece). Spyros Chatzaras won the Open final, defeating local legend Giorgos Koutis by a short 1-0. Giannis Salamouris and Malta’s Angelo Borg were the Open semi-finalists. Belgium’s Elodie Bertholet wont he Ladies tournament after beating Dionysia Koulosousa in the final. Italy’s Edoardo Bellotto won the veterans section. He beat Giorgos Zavos on shots in the final. Marcos Fallelakis defeated Francesco Borgo in the U12 final while Nicola Borgo beat Anthony Carion in the U19 final. The team event was also very intense with 22 teams taking part. TSC Falcons Athens defeated Olympia CS in the final to claim the trophy. Congratulations to all.

Maurizio Lepri and Brasilia Chieti win in Manoppello

The recent Satellite of Manoppello took place last month in Italy with a good field of 44 italian players. Maurizio Lepri (Phoenix) won the Open final, defeating Simone Trivelli (Lazio). Fabrizio Fedele and Mauro Manganello were the semi-finalists of the event. Andrea Di Vincenzo (Fiamme Azzurre) took the honors in the veterans category after beating Giulio Curato (Foggia) in the final. Riccardo Chieppa (U15) and Emanuele Di Francesco (U12) were the other individual winners. The team of Brasilia Chieti won the team event, finishing on top of a group of 6 while Black Rose Roma was runner-up.

Steve Bennett wins in Dundee

On June 20-21 the International Open of Tayside was played in Tannadice Park, home of Dundee United. An excellent days play ended with local player Steve Bennett defeating England’s Trevor Schott in the final.

Dundee United TFC won the team event, winning a group of four. Yorkshire Phoenix ended as runner-up of the tournament.

Luca Martinelli: the big man in Enderby

There was a fantastic couple of days play at the ESA Satellite Weekender in Enderby. With Individuals each day, there was a lot of action, drama and good spirited play from everyone.

The Saturday event ended up with Yorkshire’s Luca Martinelli beating Dundee’s Paul Andreas 3-1 in the Open while Valetta Lion’s Justin Finch was victorious in the Veterans Final beating Kent’s Jeremy Bradley 5-0.

The Junior categories saw Christopher Bowen edge out Kye Arnold 3-1 in an all Kent Under 19’s final whilst Kent’s Thomas Price beat Yorkshire’s Dylan Price 3-0 in the Under 15’s. To round up the Saturday play, it was Yorkshire’s Abbie Staples winning the Under 12’s final with a 2-0 win over Kent’s Sam Kelly.

Sunday was another good day of play as Luca Martinelli did the double, this time beating London’s Colin ‘Taz’ Tarry in the Open Final by a 4-1 scoreline. The Veterans final was won by London’s Dave Pawsey with a 3-1 victory over Yorkshire’s Brian Daley.

The Junior categories all went to Golden-Goal as the Under 19’s was again an all Kent affair as Kye Arnold beat Joseph Kinrade 2-1 in extra time. Joseph however did win the Under 15’s final over his team mate, Thomas Price with an extra time 1-0 win and last but not least, London’s David Peterschinigg just beat Kent’s Sam Kelly 3-2 in the Under 12’s.

Two titles for Claudio Murcilli

The International Open of Rosario was taking place last saturday in Argentina with 10 players taking part. In the Open category, Claudio Murcilli won the tournament after beating Fabrizio Bertolini (1-0) in the final. Sebastian Pesci and Nicolas Lioy lost in the semis. Claudio Murcilli was in a good day, also dominating the veterans section while Fabrizio Bertolini was runner-up.

First class performance for Juan Noguera in Bologna

In the last week-end of May the city of Bologna was the host of a fantastic FISTF Major. There were players from many different countries taking part and many of the world’s top players were competing. Serious things started in the early rounds but the first “clash of the Titans” occured in the quarter-finals when Daniele Bertelli defeated top seed Carlos Flores. Bertelli later beat Belgium’s Bessim Golger to qualify for the final. Spain’s Juan Noguera was the hot man of the week-end, beatting Kostas Seses, Luca Battista, Emanuele Licheri and Enrico Guidi to reach the final. The final was very open and Noguera took the honors, defeating Bertelli (3-2) to claim the title.

The U19 event was also impressive with Belgium’s Florian Giaux (picture) being the unexpected winner after beating William Van Den Houte in quarter-final, David Gonzalez in the semi and Andrea Ciccarelli in the final. Italians were too strong in the U15 event and Matteo Brillantino beat Alessandro Amatelli in the final.

With more than 80 registered players, the veterans section was just awesome. Malta’s Massimo Cremona was the surprising winner, beating Francesco Quattrini in the final. Stefano De Francesco and Belgium’s Eric Threis were excellent semi-finalists.

The other individual winners of the week-end were Giorgio Giudice (U12) and Paola Forlani (Ladies).

Bologna2015-Pierce

The team event was the other impressive category with 48 teams shared in 12 groups. The winner was just unexpected as the young team of Pierce 14 Altavilla (picture) managed to lift the trophy after beating the Belgian side of SC Charleroi. SC Fiamme Azzurre and the Falcons Athens (Greece) were the semi-finalists.

Two titles for John Field in Gibraltar

Last week-end 31 flickers from 5 nations met in Gibraltar to play the local Grand Prix. The Open category had a great turnout of 24 and local player John Field, who was also the organizer of the event, beat clubmate Patrick Dean in the final. Spain’s Antonio Montaño and Antonio Casin lost in the semis. Spain’s David Gonzalez won the U19 event while Gil Afonso from Portugal was the best U15.
John Field, who was in a hot week-end, also won the veterans category.

Foreign guests made the show in the team event and Tiburones (Spain) beat GRD Tires from Portugal in the final to claim the trophy.
