Press release of ECSTFA

Firstly, on behalf of my colleagues on the Board, I would like to apologise for the unsatisfactory communication from the European Confederation of Sport Table Football Association (ECSTFA) since its inception eight months ago. It has not been good enough and it will improve.

Secondly, I would like to briefly introduce myself. I am Bob Varney from the English Subbuteo Association and I have recently become the Interim President of the ECSTFA Board after the untimely resignation of our previous President which was notified to the FISTF Board earlier this week. I have a long history in business and more recent experience in professional sport to world class level. Historically, I have previously been Chairman of the English Table Soccer Association (ETSA) and President of the European Tablesoccer Federation (ETF)

The ECSTFA was created by the European Member Nations and recognised by FISTF to bring Europe in line with the other Continents under the Statutes of the world governing body. My colleagues on the ECSTFA Board are driven to deliver excellence and professionalise our sport – with the ultimate goal being television coverage – to truly take our sport to the next level.

As a new Confederation we have zero budget and zero income. Subsequently, we must raise funds to facilitate our aims and goals for the future. The foundation of our culture is to provide excellence and we feel that the players must make a realistic contribution to the cost of this – certainly in the short term until we can establish commercial partnerships. This is very much a ‘chicken and egg’ situation.

The increased Entry Fees for the Champions League and Europa League have caused much consternation among the playing membership. We as a Board accept that we have not communicated the background and reasoning surrounding our decision but remain convinced that a Fee of €10 per person per day is not excessive for a world class competition – and to create a budget for the development of our sport. We have listened to feedback and will offer free entry into the Champions League and Europa League for players from the Under 20 category.

I have had less than 48 hours to communicate with FISTF and prepare this statement, but it is our intention to have a detailed road map on how we plan to invest our budget within 14 days. The cornerstones of our investment will be in professional advertising, marketing, media and promotion, with a modern website and communications strategy; to work with trusted specialist agencies to attract the commercial partnerships that will allow the sport to reach its full potential.

We are actively recruiting additional Interim Board members who share our ambition and vision for the future. We will appoint a Director of Communications to ensure that the miscommunication of recent weeks is not repeated and a Treasurer to ensure financial transparency.

A Congress will be organised to formalise the Presidency and/or new Board Member/s and the details will be published as soon as is possible.

The Board is committed to being honest, open and transparent and seeks your support and understanding as we build and develop a brand-new Confederation.

As they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day…

Bob Varney – Interim President

European Confederation of Sport Table Football Association (ECSTFA)

Vicenc Prats claims Open and Marti Rosa the U16 at the Barcelona Satellite.

Vicenç Prats (ESP/Tiburones FM) won the Barcelona Satellite OPEN tournament, beating his club colleague Ferran Coll in the final for 4-2.

Alan Lee (ENG/Wobbly Hobby) and Arturo Martinez (ESP/ACS Perugia 1973) were the beaten semifinalists.
In the U16 category, Martí Rosa won a group of four players.
The tournament was held in the Barcelona municipality of Mataró by the reborn and historic Club AS Iluro FT, thus returning the Catalan municipality to the map of International Table Soccer.
The event, played on Astropitch fields, was attended by 22 players, among whom the presence of the main swords of the Catalan circuit stood out, the dean Arturo Martínez, the very powerful Vicenç Prats and Ferran Coll and the tournament director Alex Araujo, among others.
The national scene would be completed by Julio Candelas, who came from the Madrid town of Moralzarzal, and José David Somoza who came from Mallorca.
The international participation was made up of England’s Alan Lee from Wobbly Hobby Subbuteo Club who had just participated in the last tournament held in Mallorca and Singapore’s Nic Tan belonging to SC Dragons Hong Kong who thus repeated in an international tournament in Spain after his visit to the IO of Moralzarzal in 2019.
The tournament was organized in Open, U16 categories and the newly released Silver Cup.
In Open there were no surprises in the group stage. The favorites showed their superiority, moving on to the next phase with goalscoring generosity.
More interesting were the quarterfinal matches after the celebration of the Barrages in which Nic Tan lost 1-0. Here, again Prats and Lee presented their candidacies for the final victory with two goals against Martí Rosa and Somoza. The emotion would nest in the other two quarterfinal matches, in which the players stretched their efforts until the last differential shots. Finally, Coll and Martinez would be the ones chosen to play the semifinals, in which only Ferrán won the prize of playing the grand Final against a Prats who returned showing himself untouchable as in the rest of the tournament, to take the victory of the First Barcelona Satellite ( Mataro).
In U16, Martí Rosa stood out from all the participants for his attacking game that allowed him to break his opponents with bulky markers.

A singaporean, an Englishman and a Spaniard walk into a tournament … action from the satellite.

In the Silver Cup, a José Luis Márquez took the cup in a tight final against Ferrán Borbones.
Congratulations to all the participants and to the Iluro Club for the success in this First Barcelona Satellite Tournament (Mataró).
We encourage readers to view the tournament matches available on the futboldetaula youtube channel and on the different platforms and social networks of the AEFM

Flores claims Mallorca GP; CAP Ciudad de Murcia win teams; Benita, Herbaut take categories

Carlos Flores claimed the Spanish Open GP with some authority, beating Ángel Valverde 2-0 in the final.
Both finalists had a tough time in the semi-finals, Carlos had an incredible match against Luca Colangelo who played at a very high level. There were moments of pure fantasy and speed in that game, with spectacular attacks going the way of Flores. On the other side of the draw, Ángel and Casín saw each other again in this usual duel on the national scene, which was also resolved in sudden death with a goal from the Murciano player.

Open final – Flores and Valverde

Raúl Benita from Turia FM was on a roll and managed to beat the lightning fast Daniel Scheen (BEL) 3-2 in a beautiful golden goal in extra time in the Veterans event.

On the other hand, Turia FM continues to do a great job with the academy and both Rubén Benita and Alex Iliev continue to improve. In the case of Rubén, so much so that he won the jackpot in the under 20 category against José Torres of Tiburones FM 2-1 and in the under 16 against Alex, a teammate.

In the women’s category, world champion Audrey Herbaut (FRA) beat Melisa Scheen (BEL) 4-0.

Melina Scheen (BEL/Stembert) 3rd; Audrey Herbaut (FRA/SC Champs sur Mare) 1st; Stefka Pirova (ESP/AFT TURIA 1981)

In the teams event, it was a great victory CAP Ciudad de Murcia.
They won with a golden goal from Ángel Valverde in the final against Stembert of Belgium.
The Spanish team looked set for victorym with a two goal cushion in the total score, but the Belgians, very accustomed to high competition in this last month, forced the tie with two goals in the last two minutes. The minute of extra time was decisive and Murcia was more efficient with that goal by Ángel Valverde.

Murcia

It was a great and dramatic final which was seen in the sports center of Mallorca Águilas.

Overall, a fantastic tournament, with an impeccable organization. There was the presence of local authorities, live performance of the event and a very cordial atmosphere among the 85 participants of the nine nationalities present.
